With so many monitor brands to chose from how do you select which kind? We started off with one ViewSonic and found the price reasonable and the quality just fine for graphics work. So now we have outfitted both our offices in the USA and in Germany all with ViewSonic.

21" Viewsonic monitor at use at the Digital Imaging Technology Center, F.L.A.A.R. Here we are doing a demo to visiting archaeology professors from across the USA and from foreign countries. F.L.A.A.R. organizes workshops and symposia to let other people know about how advances in digital technology can help them in their own work.

All the pictures on the wall are from our in-house photo archive of 40,000 images of Maya art of Guatemala, Belize, Mexico, and Honduras.

This is our infamous Fade Test, which the prints from Epson failed miserably. The quality of Epson printers was poor to begin with (if done on regular paper) and got worse with each passing week. We recommend color laser or dye sub to avoid fading problems inherent with Epson printers.

Our office in Essen, Germany also has ViewSonic monitors. As beta tester for Better Light large format digital cameras we have plenty of color images to work with.

We are perfectly content with ViewSonic monitors (we have many more at other computers elsewhere in the office). Their price seems fair and they hold up well (especially considering that we move around a lot).

If you are going to be doing dye sub printing it helps to have proper color to begin with. We have used Panasonic monitors both while working at the National Museum of Japan and also in the USA. Although we like (and recommend) many other Panasonic products, we prefer ViewSonic monitors over Panasonic monitors.

Nowadays the new trend in monitors is to flat panel LCD monitors, which is great if you move around a lot. Since offices in Europe tend to be much smaller than spacious offices in the wide open spaces of America, and since you really need dual monitors to do layout and other graphics work, we will shortly be testing LCD monitors. ViewSonic makes several models which we saw at the CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany.

Our reviews based on our in-house experiences can perhaps save you the mistake of buying the wrong technology.
